MOUNT VERNON — Mt. Vernon Fire Chief & EMA Coordinator Kevin Sargent is reminding you about the upcoming leaf burning period in Mt. Vernon.
The leaf burning period runs from Monday, Nov. 8 through Sunday, Nov 14. You may burn leaves between the hours of sunrise and sunset on each of those days.
No burning shall occur upon any public street, public sidewalk, drainage ditch within the public right-of-way nor any manhole cover or on the property of another without written permission.
All types of fires must be physically attended by a person at least 18 years of age at all times.
Burning of any kind may be prohibited during this leaf burning period by order of the Fire Chief due to high winds, dry conditions or other factors.
