STEELEVILLE — As the weather continues to warm, motorists are reminded to keep an eye out for motorcycles.
Two people were killed Friday afternoon when the motorcycle they were on was involved in a crash with a pickup truck in Steeleville.
According to Illinois State Police, 34-year-old Nicholas T. Cook of Du Quoin (doo KOYN) was driving a pickup truck east on Broadway Street near James Street as a motorcycle operated by 26-year-old Dakota Morrison of Chester was at the stop sign on James Street at the intersection with Broadway Street.
For unknown reasons, Cook crossed the westbound lanes and struck the motorcycle on James Street.
An ambulance took Cook to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Morrison was pronounced dead at the scene.
Morrison’s passenger, 31-year-old Diane M. Gilmer of Steeleville was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where she died from her injuries.
ISP says the roadway was shut down for three hours for the investigation. No further information will be released.
