Meca Sue Peterson, 71, of Woodlawn, Illinois, passed away at 7:50 pm July 19, 2022 at her residence.

She was born November 17, 1950 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Robert and Betty (Webb) Thomas. Meca married Oram Gene Peterson, Sr. on July 30, 1966 in Saint Louis, Missouri. They were blessed with nearly 48 years of marriage before his passing on May 29, 2014.  Meca is survived by her children, Oram “Pete” Peterson, Jr. and wife, Sheila of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Shavonna Sanders and husband, Jim of Woodlawn; grandchildren, Erika Kehrer and husband, Chad of Woodlawn, Aaron  Peterson and wife, Brittni of Dahlgren, Illinois, Bryson Sanders and fiancée, Katelynn Braddy of Saint Charles, Missouri, and Breanna Sanders of Woodlawn; great-grandchildren, Jacie Kehrer and Lane Keherer of Woodlawn and Chloe James and Corbin Peterson of Dahlgren; brother, Jimmy Thomas and wife, Norma of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husaband and parents, Meca was preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby Thomas and Johnny Thomas; and parents-in-law, Bill and Ruby Pfolsgrof. Meca was a faithful member of Woodlawn Christian Church. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for Home Health VNA and Crossroads Community Hospital. She later worked for Walgreens Distribution Center. Meca will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 at 10:00 am at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn with Mr. Doug Junkins and Mr. Kent McDermott officiating. Interment will follow.
