Jason Michael Chesney was born May 23, 1971 to Gary and Glenda (Allen) Chesney of Mount Vernon, Illinois.
He went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2022 at 6:49 pm at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
He played sports and the saxophone while he attended Bethel Grade School. He attended Mount Vernon Township High School. After high school, he attended Rend Lake College. He operated heavy equipment during his career in construction with Operating Engineers Local 520 from nineteen years old until 2021 with failing health. He also worked at Joy Manufacturing until the plant closed. Jason had two sons with Coleen (Collins) Chesney.
Jason is survived by his parents, children, Jonathan Michael Chesney and Jordan Walter Chesney. His sister, Vonna (Chesney) Williams and James Williams of Ohio along with many nieces and nephews.
Jason was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Reva (Bates) Allen of Nason, Illinois. His paternal grandparents, Walter and Rosalie (Rapp) Chesney of Xenia, Illinois; step grandfather, Ozier Sullivan of Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Jason enjoyed coaching Jonathan’s little league at Bluford, Illinois. He also enjoyed coaching Jonathan’s Mount Vernon wrestling team where Jonathan won the championship for his age group. Jason had Jonathan riding for King City Dirt Riders. Jason enjoyed watching Jordan’s Waltonville pee wee basketball and riding go carts. He spent time at Mount Vernon Airport with Jordan and watched his first Young Eagle Flight. He was proud to attend Jordan’s four years of homecoming and prom court in school at Waltonville, where he was crowned King his senior year. Jason and his boys enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting and the family farm. He started attending DuQuoin car races at age four with his aunt, Barb (Allen) and uncle, Earl Sandusky and his family. This is where his love of racing began. Jason loved any form of racing. He loved to go fast. He loved hot rod cars, dirt bikes, and was always curious how to make them go faster. Jason was a member of West Side Baptist Church. Jason was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed by all. Jason had a giving heart and donated his eye tissue to help others.
A Visitation will be held Monday, September 5, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Merle Fullerton and Pastor Don Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Abner Cemetery in Nason, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jason’s honor to West Side Baptist Church Building Fund or Youth Group. The Funeral Service will be available via zoom at zoom.us/join.
