SALEM, IL — A 31-year-old Salem man being held in the Marion County Jail on charges of vehicular hijacking and violating an order of protection was charged Friday morning in Marion County Court with assaulting two corrections officers at the jail. Jacob Erwin was already being held on $100,000 bond for separate incidents in July.
The first stems from a female at a Mills Crossing apartment who said she had an order of protection against Erwin and he had just forced his way into her apartment. Upon their arrival, police found Erwin had already left the scene but they were able to confirm the woman’s apartment door was damaged. Erwin reportedly returned to the apartment the following day as the protected person was getting into her car. He’s alleged to have then pushed her into the passenger seat of her car, while he climbed into the driver’s seat and drove away. He then allegedly pulled over on Missouri Avenue after being confronted by some of the alleged victim’s family and fled the area on foot. Police ultimately located him hiding in the Burger King bathroom and placed him under arrest.
Erwin has remained in the Marion County Jail since that time on the Class 1 felony charge of vehicular hijacking and misdemeanor violating an order of protection. He was due to appear in court Tuesday for a pre-trial hearing in that case.
