Karen Laree Bowdler, 80 , of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on October 20, 2022 at 7:42 AM at her residence in Mount Vernon.

She was born October 11, 1942 in Mount Vernon to the late Kenneth Wilbur Pigg and Vivian Iola Roeder. Karen married Sidney Bowdler on August 14, 1959 in York County, Virginia and he preceded her in death on June 23, 2003.Karen is survived by her children, John Henry Bowdler of St. Johns, Florida and Sheila Laree Bowdler of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Jeffrey Poston of Mount Vernon and Chelsey Ray and husband, Michael of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; sister Kathy Wood of Mount Vernon; great-grandchildren, Liam “Dutch” Wade Ray and Lorelai Beverly Ray; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney; her brother, Kennneth Lee Pigg and brother-in-law, Rondel Wood. Karen retired from Summersville Grade School after 30 years. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM and interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Karen’s honor to Residential Hospice.
