CLINTON COUNTY — A 36-year-old Centralia man was sentenced Wednesday in Clinton County Court to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to Class X possession of between 100 and 400 grams of methamphetamine.
Brandon McMullin was scheduled to be tried next week before a Clinton County jury on charges of Class X felony delivery of between 100 and 400 grams of meth, possession of between 100 and 400 grams of meth, as well as delivery of between 15 and 100 grams of fentanyl and Class 4 felony possession of a controlled substance.
In exchange for his guilty plea to the Class X offense, the other charges were dismissed in the case and federal authorities agreed to not pursue charges against him for the incident that started as a July traffic stop in New Baden where officers discovered several baggies containing a combined 266 grams of meth and 286 capsules believed to contain Fentanyl were seized from inside the vehicle, along with another smaller amount of meth.
McMullin’s co-defendant Joshua Phelps entered a similar plea agreement earlier this week in which he agreed to cooperate with authorities and testify truthfully against co-defendant McMullin.
In exchange, federal authorities also agreed to not charge Phelps for the incident and his three other charges in the Clinton County case were dismissed and he was also sentenced to 15 years in prison.
