Nancy R. Schutte, 88, of Woodlawn, Illinois, passed away on December 27, 2022 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born July 5, 1934 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Arthur Earl and Jennie Melissa (Davis) Corder. Nancy married Donald E. Schutte on November 2, 1952. They were blessed with nearly forty-five years of marriage before he preceded her in death on July 31, 1997. Nancy later married J.D. Smith on October 15, 2000 and he preceded her in death on September 12, 2015.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Kathleen M. Ray and husband, Keith of Woodlawn, Illinois; grandchildren, Jason Ray and wife, Amy of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Ryan Schutte and wife, Leslie of Mahomet, Illinois, Melissa Koch and husband, Tim of Woodlawn, Illinois, Seth Schutte and wife, Colleen of Decatur, Illinois, Kyle Schutte and wife, Kylie of Mahomet, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Pam Schutte Stickney of Mahomet, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Adrianne, Trenton, Isabelle, Desmond, Uli, Zerek, Zelena, Zaylor, Kade, Micah, and Cooper.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Kevin M. Schutte.
Nancy worked as a legal secretary for Campbell, Black, and Carnine Law. She was a member of West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church. Nancy was a lovely singer and performed the National Anthem at Busch Stadium in Saint Louis in August of 1977. Nancy was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and she was gifted the name “Nanaw” by her great-grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, December 31, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Bumper Quick and Revered Seth Schutte officiating. Interment will follow at West Salem Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Nancy’s honor to West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund.
