JEFFERSON COUNTY — A Jefferson County jury returned a guilty verdict Wednesday for a 19-year-old Mt. Vernon man charged with armed violence.
Jaylen Smith has been held in the Jefferson County Jail on $100,000 bond since Mt. Vernon police arrested him in December.
According to police reports, Smith was arrested for alleged armed violence, manufacture with the intent to deliver between 1 and 15 grams of cocaine, possessing a stolen firearm and two violations of bail bond.
He was ultimately charged with Class X felony armed violence, of which the jury found him guilty Wednesday.
Smith is scheduled to be sentenced in the case on April 27.
