CLAY COUNTY — A 48-year-old Clay City woman has been arrested for attempted murder in connection with an alleged arson over the summer.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Laura L. Bricker was arrested Monday night on a Clay County charging her with attempted first-degree murder and residential arson stemming from an incident that occurred on June 22 of this year.
Clay County State’s Attorney Phillip Givens said Bricker is accused of burning down the home of Zebulon Oestreich, located on the outskirts of Clay City, in late June with the intent to kill Oestreich.
Oestreich was not injured in the incident.
Bricker was taken to the Clay County Jail and on Tuesday the state’s attorney’s office filed a petition to deny Bricker pretrial release.
Givens said Bricker is next due in court on October 30 for a preliminary hearing.
The Illinois State Fire Marshall’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
