JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public of a scam in the area.

According to the sheriff’s office, they’ve received a report of a person hand-delivering residents their property tax notice and asking for payment.

The sheriff’s office says this is not standard procedure. You will receive your property tax notice in the mail or you can go online to jeffersoncounty.illinois.gov/property_tax/index

You can pay your taxes online at that website, at most local banks and at the Jefferson County Courthouse Treasure Office.

Again, NO ONE will hand deliver your tax bill and NO ONE will ever accept payment at your home. This is a scam.
