SALEM — Residents in Salem are reporting hearing the sounds of explosions in the area, but Salem police have been unable to determine a cause or location for the sounds.

According to Police Chief Kyle Ambuehl, they received numerous calls around 8:30 Wednesday night from residents reporting hearing an explosion. Some reports indicated the sound came from the area of South Hamilton and Rotan, while others claimed it seemed to come from the area of South Broadway, and still others pointed toward the area of the Salem Country Club.

Wednesday was the second time in a week the Police Department received reports of hearing an explosion in the Salem area.

Chief Ambuehl says the sounds are strong enough to rattle windows in town.
