CLINTON COUNTY — A 52-year-old Jamestown, Illinois man pleaded guilty Monday in Clinton County Court to involuntary manslaughter in exchange for other charges, including first-degree murder, being dismissed.

Benjamin Bush was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and ordered to pay a $4,500 fine.

Bush was arrested in June for the shooting death of 54-year-old Gordon McClellan, of Missouri, at Bush’s Jamestown home.

Clinton County Sheriff Dan Travous said in a press release at the time that the shooting was not a random attack and that the victim and suspect were acquaintances of some kind.

Jamestown is about 9 miles due north of Breese.

Bush was arrested at the scene and charged with four counts first-degree murder, Class X aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm, Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm, and two Class 3 felony counts for involuntary manslaughter and aggravated battery.

On Monday, Bush pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in exchange for the other charges being dismissed.

He was given credit for time served and remanded back to the custody of the Clinton County Jail to await transport to IDOC.

Bush was scheduled for a November 20 jury trial on all charges.
