JEFFERSON COUNTY — A June 4 jury trial was confirmed Wednesday in Jefferson County Court for a 57-year-old Ashley man representing himself in a case charging him with multiple child pornography and criminal sexual assault offenses.

Robert “Robbie” Paul, of Riddle Lane in Ashley, was arrested last October on felony charges of child pornography and criminal sexual assault of a person under the age of 18.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Paul’s October arrest was the result of a three-month investigation and a September search of his home where evidence was reportedly seized.

He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he’s remained since that time. Paul was ultimately charged in court with two Class 1 felony counts of criminal sexual assault of a family member under the age of 18 and nine counts of Class 2 felony possession of child pornography depicting a victim under the age of 13.

At a court hearing earlier this month, Paul asked to represent himself in the case and after Judge Jerry Crisel admonished him about the decision the move was granted, and attorney Matt Vaughn was released from the case.

Then during a subsequent hearing held Wednesday, all parties confirmed they’re ready to go to trial on the case and confirmed a May 28th final pretrial hearing and a June 4 jury trial.
