JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL — The Illinois Department of Transportation has closed IL-Highway 148 near the Big Muddy bridge / access area.

Although it has been reported that all other major roadways are open, to the best of their knowledge, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and other Emergency Management organizations are still working to double check roads from yesterday that were impassable due to high water. The water in many areas has receded overnight however, some low lying areas could still have water over the roadway. Also, be aware of possible damage to roads due to flooding and rushing waters during yesterday’s storms that has not yet been reported.

If you come across water covering the roadway, do not drive through it. REMEMBER TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN
