MT. VERNON – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says 25-year-old Sadarius C. Turner of Atlanta, GA, is lodged in the county jail after leading area law enforcement on a high-speed chase that came out of Washington County and ended after he crashed the vehicle two miles south of Benton on I-57.

Turner was arrested by a Jefferson County deputy for Reckless Driving and Aggravated Fleeing and Attempting to Elude. He was taken to jail where he awaits his pre-trial detention hearing. He is also being held on 11 felony fraud warrants out of the state of Virginia.

The sheriff’s office received information from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office around 12:15 Thursday afternoon that a vehicle fled from a felony stop on I-64 near mile marker 56. The vehicle was described as a white Nissan Rogue with New York license plates and occupied with at least two black males. Deputies responded to the area to assist.

Deputies positioned on I-57 just near exit 95 and saw Turner speeding going south. Deputies tried to stop Turner, but he refused and weaved in and out of traffic including using the shoulders going 100 mph.

When Turner got to Benton, his vehicle struck several vehicles, went off the west side of I-57 and crashed. One suspect, the passenger, was taken into custody at the crash site, and Turner fled on foot west into the woods. The passenger was transported to SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon for evaluation and treatment for non-life-threatening injuries prior to being taken to jail. The passenger was released at the conclusion of the investigation.

Turner was apprehended by a Johnston City officer in their jurisdiction at 2 p.m. Turner was taken to jail after being treated for injuries related to the crash at a Williamson County medical facility.

Illinois State Police handled the crash investigation which led to three different vehicles Turner struck while running from law enforcement. No one struck by Turner’s vehicle was injured.

The Illinois State Police, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, West City Police Department, and Franklin County EMA responded to assist at the crash site and search for Turner.
