CLINTON COUNTY — The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office is confirming a 24-year-old male driver died from injuries he suffered Thursday morning in a train vs. vehicle crash just east of Hoffman.
Accident reports say the crash happened at approximately 9:48 a.m. when the passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on a private lane of 24505 Route 161 and was involved in a crash with the westbound Norfolk Southern train.
Hoffman Fire Department, Huey-Ferrin-Boulder Fire Department, and Lifestar Ambulance responded to the scene along with the sheriff’s office.
Air-Evac was dispatched to the scene and transported the driver of the vehicle to a St. Louis area trauma center and he later succumbed to his injuries at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation. The Police Communications Center of Norfolk-Southern Railroad confirms it is aware of the incident.
The identity of the driver is being withheld pending the notification of family.
