WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 30-year-old woman was airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital Thursday after she apparently drove into a large piece of farming equipment on Illinois 153 near Lively Grove in Washington County.
According to the St. Libory Fire Department, the woman was driving a 2006 Honda Accord south on Illinois 153 near County Road 10 when around 1:30 p.m. she ran into the back of a large cultivator being hauled by a tractor.
A fire reportedly started in the engine compartment of the Accord that was then dragged about 200 feet before the woman rolled out of the vehicle. The farmer reportedly didn’t notice someone had struck his equipment and dragged the burning car another 100 feet.
Another motorist noticed the woman and called 911 and stayed with her until emergency responders arrived on the scene.
Washington County EMS and the Coulterville Fire Department responded to the scene, with the St. Libory Fire Department being dispatched around 1:40 p.m.
The woman’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Her identity has not yet been released.
