Shane R. Lindsay was arrested over the weekend. He was formally charged Monday with Class X felony drug-induced homicide as well as Class 3 felony distribution of a non-narcotic substance, Class 4 obstruction and Class 4 concealment of a death.

Lindsay is charged in connection with the death of 18-year-old Dakota Ellerbusch, who was found dead on New Year’s Day at a clubhouse in rural Washington County.

According to reports, Lindsay allegedly provided Ellerbush with fentanyl-laced heroin and obstructed justice by giving false information to a Washington County detective regarding the true circumstances surrounding the death of Ellerbusch. According to the sheriff’s office, they were assisted by the FBI in their investigation.

The concealment charge accuses Lindsay of “lying to and giving misdirection to John Ellerbusch as to the actual physical location of Dakota Ellerbusch,” for the purpose of “preventing or delaying the discovery of the death of Dakota Ellerbusch.”

Lindsay pleaded not guilty in court Monday and demanded a jury trial. Bail was set at $150,000 and he is scheduled for a May 23 preliminary hearing with his court-appointed attorney.
