DECATUR, Ill. (AP) – The weekend downpour didn’t do farmers in central Illinois any favors.

Farmers and those who track farming in the region say that they are still assessing how much damage done by the three inches of rain that fell on Decatur on Saturday and Sunday.

But they tell the (Decatur) Herald & Review the rain may have washed away planting area farmers have done or delayed planting for farmers who haven’t planted yet.

Macon County Farm Bureau Executive Vice President Tim Stock says farmers must wait until the water drains off crops to assess how much damage the flooding caused.

Farmers are hoping for a dry week and Stock says if the soil dries quickly and crusts over, farmers will have to use rotary hoes to break it up.
