ELGIN, Ill. (AP) — Attorney General Lisa Madigan says Illinois should deny a pension to a terminally ill former lawmaker for compiling and trading more than 2,700 child pornographic images.
Madigan ruled Thursday that former state Rep. Keith Farnham of Elgin forfeited his right to his $1,237 monthly benefit because he used the state’s computers and other property to access child porn before he resigned last year. She says the 67-year-old Elgin Democrat is due a refund of his pension contributions.
A legislative panel is due to consider Farnham’s pension April 15.
A federal judge has ordered Farnham to report to prison next month to begin serving an eight-year sentence.
Farnham’s attorney has said pulmonary fibrosis would kill Farnham in less than four months.
A message seeking comment was left with the attorney Thursday.
