CENTRALIA — We’ve received reports that Centralia police are investigating a shooting incident late Sunday night that sent two male subjects to the hospital with gunshot wounds, and lit up 911 phone lines with numerous calls.

The first calls to 911 reportedly came in just before midnight from the 900 block of East Broadway. Police then received a call from a resident in that area saying someone had entered his home and fired a weapon and that he then returned fire.

As calls continued to roll in, police were informed a few minutes after midnight that a gunshot victim was being transported by private vehicle to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

A few minutes later a call was received from a resident in the 300 block of South Perrine reporting a male came to his back porch saying his friend had been shot.

It was later reported that that male had also been shot and was suffering a gunshot wound to the groin. He was transported via Lifestar to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

With multiple locations involved, Central City and Wamac police responded to help Centralia officers secure the scenes until detectives could arrive. Crime Scene Investigators with the Illinois State Police were called to help process the scenes and ESDA responded to block off the area at the locations involved.

One victim was ultimately airlifted from St. Mary’s to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment of his injuries. The identities and conditions of the two males shot are unknown at this time.
