MOUNT VERNON — The Mt Vernon Police Department has made three arrests in connection with recent burglaries in the city.

On October 24th, officers responded to a residential burglary in the 1600 block of Isabella.

An investigation by the Mt. Vernon Police Department Detective Division led to a Jefferson County warrant for residential burglary being issued for 19-year-old Quincy D. Hughes. His bail has been set at $40,000.

On October 25th, detectives arrested Hughes on the warrant and transported him to the Jefferson County jail where he remains.

On November 2, officers responded to the 1800 block of Benton Road for a report of an interrupted burglary in progress at a business.

According to reports, 32-year-old Brandon Williams was confronted by the property owner and fled the scene on foot.

Witnesses watched Williams until officers arrived on scene and took him into custody. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he remains with bail set at $50,.

On November 6, officers responded to a report of a burglary from motor vehicle in the 1700 block of Oakland. Officers observed 18-year-old Cortez Johnson near Casey’s in the 700 block of Salem Road.

Johnson fled from officers on foot but after a brief foot pursuit he was taken into custody in an area north of the 1100 block of Maple.

Johnson was transported to the Jefferson County Jail on charges of burglary from motor vehicle and resisting arrest. He remains in custody awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
