WASHINGTON, Ill. (AP) — A foundation that handled money for relief efforts following a 2013 tornado in central Illinois plans to use some of its leftover funds to partner with Habitat for Humanity on a local construction project.

The Journal Star reviewed tax documents and reports that show the Washington Illinois Area Foundation raised about $1.6 million after a tornado tore through Washington, destroying homes. About $1 million of the funds for relief work were spent through the end of its latest tax reporting year. More funds have since been spent, but the group still has some money left.

The group decided to work with Habitat for Humanity to build a home on a lot where a house was destroyed by the tornado.

The foundation also plans to save some money for future projects.
