WAYNE COUNTY — Human remains found last month on a remote farm in Wayne County have been taken to an FBI facility in Springfield for an autopsy before being transported to the FBI headquarters in Quantico, Virginia.

The FBI has taken possession of human remains that new reports say were found inside a blanket atop a burn pile south of the small Wayne County community of Boyleston. Following the autopsy in Springfield, they will be transported to a forensic anthropologist at Quantico.

According to reports, a local landowner was out preparing to cut firewood the day after Christmas when he discovered the remains and alerted police.

Crime scene specialists from the Illinois State Police and the FBI gathered evidence from the scene for four days before clearing the scene.

It could be weeks before a positive identification can be made on the remains, or even longer if DNA testing is needed.
