WHITE COUNTY — The U.S. Marshal Service is now heading the search for two fugitives who escaped last month from a southern Illinois jail.
Zachery Shock and Johnny Tipton escaped from the White County Jail more than two weeks ago. Shock was in jail on charges he murdered James Berkel, of Salem.
The White County Sheriff’s Office says tips continue to come in but all of them are outside the Tri-State area. Reports indicate the walls of the White County Jail have now been filled with concrete.
Shock, Tipton, and a third inmate who was quickly captured reportedly broke through a jail wall with a pipe.
A new fence with razor wire has also been put up around the building.
