Kenneth McKinney Jr. , who was free on bond at the time, was taken into custody following the Wednesday sentencing.

He pleaded guilty in July to firing shots in the 500 block of South 15th Street in Mt. Vernon.

Mt. Vernon police officers and detectives, along with Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene on a report of shots fired.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered a vehicle in the street that had been hit by gunfire.

McKinney was arrested for aggravated discharge of a firearm and a handgun was reportedly recovered at the scene.
