CHICAGO (AP) — Voting is underway in Illinois where presidential hopefuls Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders rallied voters from afar amid a global pandemic.
Biden is hoping to expand his lead over Sanders as Illinois votes Tuesday. Also on the ballot are primaries for Congress including a rematch between Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski and progressive Marie Newman for a Chicago-area seat.
Races for the Legislature, Cook County state’s attorney and judges also are on the ballot. Officials declined to postpone the election despite concerns about low turnout during the COVID-19 outbreak. Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough said shortly after the polls opened that she expected “things to go well.”
