CARLINVILLE, Ill. (Belleville News-Democrat) — Authorities say a murder suspect has escaped from a southern Illinois jail. The Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old William D. Kavanaugh of East Alton broke out of the jail on Sunday night.
It says “Kavanaugh is considered dangerous” and should not be approached. He’s described as white, 5-foot-11, 210 pounds, with a medium build, red hair and brown eyes.
The sheriff’s office says Kavanaugh “gained access to a closet, crawled through the ceiling and out a second-story window.” The Belleville News-Democrat reports Kavanaugh is accused in the shooting death of a man on New Year’s Eve in 2015.
