The Marion County Health Department reported on Wednesday two more Marion County residents who tested positive for Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
One individual, a female in her 30s, is reportedly doing well and is at home on isolation. The other individual, a male in his 20s, is also reportedly doing well and is at home on isolation. Marion County Health has to date conducted 260 tests with 17 positive and 243 negative results
The Jefferson County Health Department reported on Wednesday an additional positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in a Jefferson County resident. The patient is a man in his 70s who is in isolation at a local hospital.
Public health officials have begun investigations into all these cases, speaking with individuals who they may have come into contact with before this diagnosis.
Through these investigations, public health may place other individuals on home quarantine if they are determined to have had significant exposure. Such individuals may not be symptomatic but are quarantined for a period of time which allows symptoms to develop and pass, without posing risk to others. To date, there have been 17 confirmed cases in Marion County. There have been 10 lab-confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Jefferson County and one death. Public Health officials expect more positive cases to be confirmed locally.
On Tuesday, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced 1,222 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, including 74 deaths.
In all, 23,247 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 and 869 have died from the virus in Illinois.
More than 110,000 have been tested for the virus.
According to IDPH, 23 percent of all hospital beds in the state are being used by COVID-19 patients and those suspected of having the virus.
