CENTRALIA — Elections have consequences. The City of Centralia must now weigh options for how to pay for necessary equipment for the police and fire departments after voters on Tuesday rejected a half-cent sales tax for public safety.

The issue will be discussed at Monday night’s city council meeting.

Options to bridge the financial gap left from the sales tax failure include raising of property taxes, proposing another sales tax, and delaying the purchase of a third fire truck.

Cuts will also make up part of the potential budget bridge and could include a reduction in planned demolitions and tree removals, and future structural work at the Fairview Park outdoor Pool.
