JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 28-year-old Indiana man was formally charged Tuesday in Jefferson County Court with multiple charges stemming from a high-speed pursuit Monday that started in Mt. Vernon and ended in his capture in Fairfield.

Ryan C. Turner is charged with two Class 4 felonies for aggravated fleeing police – one for disobeying two traffic control devices and the other for driving 21 mph or more over the speed limit. Turner is also charged with Class A misdemeanor aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and Class C disorderly conduct.

Around 11:30 Monday morning, after becoming upset with employees, Turner allegedly entered the Burger King restaurant on South 10th in Mt. Vernon while displaying a handgun.

He then left the restaurant and climbed into a black Pontiac G-6 in which he fled. A Mt. Vernon police officer reportedly spotted the vehicle and followed it west on Veterans until it entered eastbound Interstate 64 where a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy joined in the pursuit.

Speeds on the interstate ultimately esceeded 110 mph. Hamilton County deputies had set up stop sticks on the interstate but Turner apparently left the interstate and parked his vehicle at the Casey’s General Store on Route 45 in Fairfield where he fled on foot.

Law enforcement ultimately captured him and he was brought back to the Jefferson County Jail where he remains with bail set at $40,000.

He’s scheduled for a January 13 preliminary hearing and first appearance with his court-appointed attorney.

Turner has a history of high-speed traffic offenses and driving while license suspended or revoked, including a driving revoked citation earlier this year in Jefferson County for which his bond was ordered forfeited after he failed to appear at an October court hearing.
