MARION COUNTY — Bond was set at $50,000 Tuesday for a 26-year-old Centerville woman charged in connection with a shooting early Monday morning in Centralia that sent one person to the hospital.

Alexis Keller, who previously lived in Centralia, was formally charged Tuesday in Marion County Court with Class X felony aggravated battery through the discharge of a firearm and Class 2 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle.

According to police, Keller, along with 46-year-old David Knox of Mt. Vernon, and a third person left a home on Gragg Street shortly before 2:30 a.m. Monday when Keller stopped the van she was driving and fired a handgun twice at Knox who was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle.

He reportedly wrestled the gun away from Keller and she fled the van on foot. Knox then began driving the van and called for help, ultimately meeting Central City Police and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department near the Laundromat in Sandoval.  

He was transported by ambulance to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia where he was ultimately released after being treated for a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Shortly after Knox had contacted police about being shot, Keller reportedly called them to report that Knox had committed a crime against her friend who was the third person in the van. 

However, police say they later decided her claim was unfounded and took her into custody.

Keller is next scheduled to appear in court on August 23, for a preliminary hearing.
