CLINTON COUNTY — After just 30 minutes of deliberation Tuesday, a Clinton County jury found a 41-year-old Carlyle man guilty of all three felony charges against him.
According to Clinton County State’s Attorney J.D. Brandmeyer, Clinton Welch was found guilty of two counts of aggravated battery and one count of domestic battery, in connection with a July 2, 2023, incident outside the Dookie Set in rural Carlyle, where Welch knocked a female household member unconscious.
Witnesses to the incident testified in court they heard the woman screaming, and when they approached the pair Welch struck a female witness and ripped her shirt.
Welch was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of Class 3 felony aggravated battery and one count of Class 4 felony domestic battery.
He faces between 2 and 10 years in prison on the aggravated battery convictions and up to four years parole on the domestic battery.
Sentencing in the case is scheduled for January 24. Judge Douglas Gruenke revoked Welch’s bond following the verdict and Welch was remanded to the custody of the Clinton County jail pending sentencing.
