FAYETTE COUNTY — A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed Saturday night in St. Peter, and the Illinois State Police is investigating.

According to ISP, the shooting suspect – also a male juvenile — reportedly fled the scene but was later located and apprehended. ISP reports the shooting happened around 8:13 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of North 2200 Street in rural St. Peter.

The Fayette County Coroner pronounced the victim dead at the scene.  The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Vandalia and St. Elmo police and the St. Peter Fire Department responded to the scene.  The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department later turned the investigation over to the State Police.

According to ISP, the investigation is open and ongoing, but no further information is being released at this time. An autopsy is planned for Monday in Springfield.
