MARION COUNTY — A 29-year-old Salem man was sentenced Tuesday to an additional 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to two of seven remaining sex offense charges against him.

Devon Gibbs was earlier sentenced to 42 years in prison after he was found guilty at a bench trial of the first four Class X felony charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

It had been agreed the 11 charges against Gibbs would be split into three separate actions for each of his victims.

During a hearing Tuesday on the remaining seven counts, Gibbs entered an Alford plea on two Class X felony charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault resulting in bodily harm, in exchange for the remaining five charges being dismissed along with an earlier case charging him with home invasion.

Per the plea agreement, Gibbs was sentenced to six years on each count to be served consecutively to each other and to the earlier 42-year sentence handed down last August.

Gibbs will have to serve 85 percent of the sentences. Once released from prison, he’ll have to serve three years to life on parole as well as register as a sexual predator.
