MULKEYTOWN – A man is facing multiple charges for allegedly destroying property with a sword early Wednesday morning in rural Mulkeytown.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon, 29-year-old Kevin J. Fasig II of Mulkeytown was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault (Class 4 Felony), four counts of Criminal Damage to Property (Class 3 Felony), Resisting/ Obstructing a Peace Officer (Class A Misdemeanor) and Armed Violence (Class X Felony). He was lodged in the Franklin County Jail.
Sheriff Bacon says the sheriff’s office got a 911 call just after 4 a.m. about what Fasig was doing. Deputies were sent to the area to search for him. Fasig threatened area residents and caused significant damage to private property.
Fasig was found near a home armed with a double edged sword about three feet in length around 5:20 a.m. The deputy who found Fasig asked him to drop the sword. Fasig refused and told the deputy he wasn’t surrendering. The deputy deployed his taser on two separate occasions and wasn’t successful. OC spray was used and Fasig was taken into custody.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Christopher Police Department, Sesser Police Department, Zeigler Police Department, Illinois State Police, Franklin County Emergency Management, and AMR Ambulance.
