Sheriff’s Office is suspending evictions from before Christmas to after New Year’s.

A Wednesday statement from the office announced a moratorium on evictions from Dec. 19 to Jan. 3.

Sherriff Mark Curran says in the statement that he understands many county residents are “struggling” financially. And he adds that “there’s no need to add to their suffering with an eviction during the holidays.”

Evictions can take place for a variety of reasons after a landlord takes the appropriate legal steps. Evictions by sheriff’s deputies typically occur after a tenant fails to pay rent for weeks or months after it’s due.
