EAST ST. LOUIS — A 25-year-old Centreville has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for commercial sex trafficking of a minor, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.

Demerous E. Foxworth has been sentenced in federal court and ordered to pay a $500 fine and a $200 special assessment. He will be on parole for 10 years after his release.

Foxworth pleaded guilty in April to commercial sex trafficking of a minor and use of a facility of interstate commerce to promote an unlawful activity.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, in the summer of 2014, Foxworth contacted a 16-year-old girl and established a sexual relationship with her.

Shortly after meeting the girl, Foxworth offered to help her make money by engaging in prostitution.

Foxworth then repeatedly posted advertisements on the internet offering the victim to engage in prostitution. He then received a portion of the money, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.

In addition, from October 2012 through October 2015, Foxworth recruited five women to engage in prostitution.

He posted advertisements of the five women on the internet and arranged transportation and accommodations for the calls received.

Foxworth received a portion of the money made by each woman, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
