BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — A Bloomington man has been charged with murder in the stabbing deaths of his parents.

The Pantagraph reports that 25-year-old Brian Petersen appeared via video at a court hearing Monday when a judge set bond at $6 million.

Prosecutors say Peterson stabbed his mother, 63-year-old Nancy Petersen, three times in the chest and his father, 68-year-old Bruce Petersen, in the back on Sunday morning.

State’s Attorney Jason Chambers says Bruce Petersen called emergency dispatchers around 9 a.m. Sunday and told police he and his wife had been stabbed by their son, who lived with them.

Nancy Petersen died at the scene. Bruce Petersen was airlifted to a Peoria hospital, where he died around 3:45 p.m.

Brian Petersen is scheduled to appear in court again Aug. 12.
