JEFFERSON COUNTY — A mental fitness hearing has been delayed for a 32-year-old Mt. Vernon man charged in Jefferson County Court with multiple felonies for sex acts committed against two children.
The defense said in court Wednesday that it was not willing to agree with the findings of a mental fitness evaluation that had been ordered in August when defense attorney Scott Quinn raised doubts regarding the mental fitness of his client Charles Mick.
Mick is charged with three Class X counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and three Class 2 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 13.
According to court information, the charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Illinois State Police. The investigation showed Mick committed the sex acts against one victim between March 21 and March 27, 2015, and against another victim between 2006 and 2009.
The hearing has been continued until October 26, giving Quinn time to discuss the results of the fitness evaluation with the doctor who conducted it. Mick remains in the Jefferson County Jail, with bail set at $500,000.
