MARION COUNTY — A 21-year-old Marion man who has been held in the Marion County Jail since October 3, is now facing an unrelated charge of aggravated battery to a peace officer.

Keenan Parson was already facing two Class X charges of armed violence, two Class 3 felony charges of manufacture with the intent to deliver between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis, and possession of a sawed off shotgun, as well as misdemeanor resisting a peace officer.

Parson was initially arrested after fleeing on foot from a vehicle pursuit that ended when his vehicle crashed into a porch in the 600 block of East Kerr in Centralia.

A search of the area for Parson and his 23-year-old passenger Todd Lee, of Cairo, not only resulted in their arrests, but the alleged discovery of a 45 caliber handgun and a shotgun police say were dropped during the foot pursuit. More than 150 grams of cannabis, as well as ammunition were also found during a search of the vehicle.

Both men were taken to the Marion County Jail, and Parson’s bail was set at $150,000

He was subsequently charged Monday with Class 2 felony aggravated battery of a peace officer and his bail was set at $175,000, for allegedly striking a corrections officer in the face and head over the weekend. He is next scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
