PERRY COUNTY — A southern Illinois soldier serving in Afghanistan is one of four Americans killed in a suicide bombing.
Perry County authorities confirm Tyler Iubelt, of Tamaroa was killed in a bombing Saturday morning at Bagram Airfield in the northern part of the country.
Iubelt was a student at Pinckneyville High School and joined the Army right after graduation. Officials say Iubelt’s family is working to recover his body from overseas.
According to U.S. Military officials, the bombing at Bagram airfield killed two US service members and two contractors.
The Taliban released a Tweet claiming responsibility for the attack.
Bagram Airfield has been targeted by militants in the past, but this is the first time a bomb has exploded inside the base.
The investigation is ongoing.
