The charges were filed Monday in Richland County Circuit Court against 53-year-old Glenn R. Ramey of Olney. A judge ordered Ramey held in lieu of $10 million bond.
Ramey was arrested Sunday in connection with the death of Sabrina Stauffenberg. The child’s body was found Wednesday behind a vinegar plant on the south side of Olney, a town in southeastern Illinois of about 9,000 people.
According to prosecutors, Ramey suffocated Sabrina on or around Nov. 23. They also accused the man of raping the girl, causing “great bodily harm to the girl that was life threatening.”
It wasn’t immediately known if Ramey has legal representation.
