Xavier D. Goostree was arrested in July and charged with home invasion causing injury, and first degree attempted murder knowing his actions created a strong probability of great bodily harm or death – both Class X felonies.
Goostree was also charged with Class 2 felony aggravated domestic battery involving strangling, Class 3 felony aggravated battery of a pregnant person, and Class 4 domestic battery with a prior conviction.
In exchange for his guilty plea to the home invasion charge and his acknowledgement of violating probation in a 2015 felony aggravated domestic battery conviction all other charges against Goostree were dismissed. He received a 4-year prison sentence for the probation violation that will run concurrent to the 7-year sentence.
According to Salem Police Chief Sean Reynolds, the July arrest came after a verbal disagreement between Goostree and his girlfriend escalated into a physical altercation.
Reynolds said a female neighbor who was reportedly pregnant at the time attempted to intervene and was subsequently also battered by Goostree.
The pregnant neighbor called 911 and Goostree’s girlfriend ran downstairs, where a male neighbor saw her and told her to come into his apartment to get away from Goostree. Reynolds said before the man could get the door to the apartment closed, however, Goostree forced his way into the apartment, which resulted in the home invasion charge.
Goostree has remained in the Marion County Jail since his July arrest and has been given credit for 155 days served.
